Richard Wesley Cottrell, 90, of Granite City, IL, passed away at 4:20 a.m. Sat. Aug. 15, 2026 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born Apr. 5, 1936 in Dover, TN to the late Lena (Townsend ) Crews and Delmar Cottrell.
Richard married Hilda Gray Collins May 30, 1954 in Granite City. She preceded him in death last year on June 8, 2025 after 71 years of marriage.
He retired from Granite City Steel in 1996 after 40 years of service. He also owned and operated A1 Appliance and was a member of Word of Life Tabernacle.
Survivors include 2 sons: James “Jim” (Martha) Cottrell and Tom (Tina) Cottrell of Granite City; a brother: Lewis Cottrell of Granite City; and 3 sisters: Roberta Kent and Donna Waldrop of TN and Debbie Batson of Granite City.
In addition to his parents and spouse, he was preceded in death by a son: Johnny Lee Cottrell; and 2 step-brothers.
The family will hold a celebration of Richard’s life at a later date.
