WOOD RIVER – Wood River Fire Department was dispatched just after 4:30 a.m. early Sunday morning for smoke coming out of a house in the 500 block of North Wood River Ave.
Police officers first arrived on scene and said they had smoke coming from the residence. Firefighters arrived and noticed smoke and fire coming from the home. A box-alarm was requested because it was a working fire.
East Alton, Roxana, Edwardsville, and Rosewood Heights Fire Departments responded to the scene. Alton Fire Department responded with an ambulance fore fire standby. Firefighters were able to get a handle on the fire quickly. The house appeared vacant. The Wood River Police Department closed Wood River Ave for a while due to the active fire scene.
No injuries were reported and its unknown what caused the fire.
