ALTON – The Alton Fire Department responded to the 1900 block of Alby Street early Friday morning for a structure fire.
When firefighters arrived they encountered heavy fire and smoke coming from the home. Alton requested East Alton’s ladder truck to help fight the fire since the firefighters couldn’t enter the house due to how big the fire was.

Firefighters were still on scene battling the fire at 9:00 a.m. Alby St. was closed to traffic while firefighters battled the fire. Madison County Emergency Management Rehab Unit was also on the scene.
No injuries were reported and it is unknown at this time what caused the fire.
