Alton Girls Basketball Team Continue Undefeated Season With Win Over Edwardsville

ALTON – Alton Girls Basketball team extended its undefeated season with a 56 to 41 win over the Edwardsville Tigers Thursday night. The Lady Redbirds record now sits at 19-0.

Edwardsville jumped out to a 14 to 8 lead over the Redbirds at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, Alton chipped away at the lead and went into the locker room down by three at the half 23-20. Alton and Edwardsville came out at after halftime and battled through the third quarter. Edwardsville went into the final quarter up by two with a 34 to 32 lead.

In the final quarter Alton came out shooting and put 24 points on the board and outscored Edwardsville 24 to 7 in the final quarter to take a home win.

Alton was led by Jarius Powers with 15 points and Alyssa Lewis with 14 points. Edwardsville was led by Emerson Weller with 19 points and Zay Hoover with 11 points.

Alton will continue their undefended season on Saturday in the Highland Girls Tournament when they play Triad.
