TROY — The Troy Police Department is partnering with the Illinois State Police and other local agencies to enforce traffic safety laws during the “Click It or Ticket” and “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign running from Nov. 21 to Dec. 2, 2025.
Officers will focus on seat-belt violations, speeding, distracted driving, and impaired driving caused by alcohol or drugs, including cannabis. The campaign coincides with the Thanksgiving holiday, a period marked by increased travel and celebrations.
“Thanksgiving brings more vehicles, longer trips, and more festivities,” the Troy Police Department said in a statement. “Seat belts remain one of the simplest and most effective ways to save your life in a crash. We’re asking every driver and passenger to buckle up, every trip, every time – and make a plan for a sober ride before the celebrations begin. If you drink alcohol or use cannabis, don’t drive.”
The department also offered safety tips for drivers and hosts, including selecting a sober driver or arranging alternative transportation such as taxis or rideshare services, providing alcohol-free beverages at gatherings, and calling 911 if an impaired driver is spotted on the road. Additionally, they emphasized that cannabis use can impair reaction time and judgment, and that its effects may be delayed.
The Troy Police Department urged all vehicle occupants to wear seat belts at all times to help reduce the risk of injury in crashes.
