WOOD RIVER – Local authorities have charged two area residents with driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs in separate felony cases.
Steven Kelley, 51, of East Alton, was charged with a Class 4 felony count of aggravated driving while under the influence.
Kelley allegedly drove a 1999 Dodge Dakota on Illinois Route 143 at Illinois Route 3 in Wood River while under the influence of alcohol on Sept. 9, 2025. Charging documents also state the vehicle he was driving was not covered by a liability insurance policy at the time of the offense.
The Wood River Police Department presented the case against Kelley, who was granted pretrial release from custody.
Melissa A. Brown, 45, of Maryville, was separately charged with a Class 4 felony count of possession of a controlled substance and a Class A misdemeanor count of driving while under the influence.
Brown allegedly knowingly possessed a substance containing tramadol, a controlled substance, on Sept. 11, 2025. On the same day, she reportedly drove a Chevrolet Silverado on Division Street in Maryville while under the influence of any drug or combination of drugs “to a degree that rendered the defendant incapable of safely driving,” according to charging documents.
The case against Brown was presented by the Maryville Police Department, and she was also ordered released from custody pending trial.
All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
