Brooke Krey Set To Lead Highland Elementary Starting July 2026

Brooke Krey.HIGHLAND – Highland CUSD No. 5 has named Brooke Krey as the next principal of Highland Elementary School, effective July 1, 2026. The announcement was made during the school board meeting on Dec. 15, 2025.

Krey will succeed Lori Miscik, who is retiring after 36 years of service, including 18 years as principal of Highland Elementary School. Superintendent Mike Sutton highlighted Krey’s extensive administrative experience, noting she has served as an assistant principal, associate principal, and principal over the past eight years.

Krey holds an undergraduate degree in Elementary and Special Education from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and earned a master’s degree in School Leadership from Concordia University Chicago in 2018. Her previous roles include positions in Itasca District 10 and Bunker Hill District 8.

“As a proud product of the Highland Community Unit School District, having grown up in Alhambra and graduated from Highland High School, it feels meaningful to return home,” Krey said. She added that her husband, Adam, and their two daughters, Payton and Maren, are looking forward to joining the community.

“As I enter my 14th year in education, I remain passionate about fostering supportive, student-centered environments where every learner feels included and empowered,” she said.

Krey expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with staff, families, and the broader community to support student success.

Highland Superintendent Sutton encouraged the community to welcome Krey to Highland CUSD No. 5.
