Jimmy VanVleet

Jimmy Dean VanVleet, 68, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Jimmy was born on December 6, 1957, in Granite City, the beloved son of the late Chuck and Mildred (Perkins) VanVleet.

Jimmy will be remembered for his kind heart, easy smile, and the rare gift of making everyone feel like an old friend. A loving father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend, he truly never met a stranger. After 24 years of dedicated service, Jimmy retired as a plumber, a trade that reflected his strong work ethic and willingness to help others. He was a faithful member of Restoration Church, where he was known as Uncle Jimmy and his quiet devotion and friendly presence touched many lives.

An enthusiastic antique picker, Jimmy found joy in collecting die-cast cars and just about anything that caught his eye. Yet his greatest treasure was his family. Time spent with those he loved most brought him his deepest happiness, and his love for them was unwavering and unmistakable.

In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his siblings, Vicky Coleman, Cheryl Hammond, and Dennis VanVleet.

He is survived by his loving son, Joshua (Rebecca) VanVleet of Desoto, Missouri; his dear brother, Charles (Pam) VanVleet of Kampsville, Illinois; and his cherished grandchildren, Levi, Payton, Luke, Ian, and Grace Ann, who brought him immense pride and joy. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever hold his memory close.

A memorial visitation in celebration of Jimmy’s life will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Irwin Chapel in Granite City, Illinois, with a memorial service to follow at 7:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Larry Lacefield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Restoration Church of Granite City, with contributions accepted at the funeral chapel.
