Mardel Frick

Mardel “Marty” Lynn Frick, née Lyman, of Smithton, IL, passed away peacefully Monday, April 6, 2026, at the age of 71, surrounded by the love she so freely gave throughout her life.

Born on September 29, 1954, Marty built a life centered on family, hard work, and caring for others. She was a woman who showed up steady, dependable, and strong in quiet ways. She worked as a scheduler for the Puhlman Reporting Firm in St. Louis, Missouri, where she was known for her reliability and dedication. Over the years, she wore many hats, including Ford Service Manager, Dollar General Manager, and serving in law enforcement as a 911 dispatcher and jailer. In every role, she worked with commitment, resilience, and a calm presence that others leaned on.

Marty had a servant’s heart. She gave her time to the Community Interfaith Food Pantry and Siteman Cancer Center, never seeking recognition, simply wanting to help others. If someone needed her, she was there.

She had a fondness for golf and spent many happy hours on the course. It wasn’t just the game she loved it was the laughter, the sunshine, and the friendships formed along the way. She appreciated life’s simple pleasures and found peace outdoors.

Her greatest joy, however, was her family, especially her grandchildren, near and far. She made it a point to stay connected, to call, to check in, and to remember the little details. They were her pride and her happiness, and she carried each of them in her heart every single day.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Marge Lyman; her sister, Mary Lou Herzog; her late husband, Bernie Gutz.

Left to carry her love forward is her husband of 12 years, Wes Frick; her children, Brandon (Heidi) Hout, Brenda (John) Dent, and Brian (Maribel) Hout; her stepchildren, Amy (Michael) Cortez, Melinda (Travis) McCubbin, and Stacy (Jeremy) Dahm; and her cherished grandchildren, Makayla, Makynzie, JR, Carson, Aulana, Brayden, Aaron, Alex, Jessica, Tyler, Allison, Ashley, and Riley.

She is also survived by her siblings, Michael (Joan) Lyman, Merle (Mary Beth) Lyman, Mitch (Lauri) Lyman, and Mark (Diane) Lyman, along with loving aunt, uncles, cousins and dear nieces and nephews who will miss her deeply.

Marty will be remembered for her caring heart, her steady strength, and the unconditional love she poured into her family and community. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and quiet grace that will continue to live on in all who knew her.
