Michael “Mike” Alan Wheatley, 61, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 12, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on March 23, 1964, in St. Louis, Missouri, Mike was the cherished son of the late Elvin Augustus Wheatley and Linda Joyce (Mason) Campbell.
On April 17, 1999, Mike married the love of his life, Misty Black, in Granite City. From that day forward, theirs was a partnership built on laughter, loyalty, and unwavering devotion. Misty was his heart, his home, his best friend and his greatest blessing.
Mike was a gifted contractor whose hands could build, fix, and create just about anything. If something was broken, Mike could make it whole again — and he did so not only with tools and lumber, but with quiet strength and steady love. He took pride in his work and found satisfaction in seeing a job done right.
He had a deep love for music of all kinds and could be often found in his garage with the music turned up, content in the simple joys of life. But nothing brought him more happiness than his family. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he delighted in every moment spent with them — spoiling them, teaching them, and loving them beyond measure.
Mike will be remembered as a devoted husband, a proud father, a loving brother, a doting grandfather, and a loyal friend. His strength, humor, and generous spirit touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his sister, Tammy Gilberg.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Misty Wheatley of Granite City, Illinois; his loving children, Madisyn ( Brett) Miller of Arnold, Missouri; Cheyenne (John Tucker) Black of Granite City, Illinois; Tyler (Mandy) Wheatley of Granite City, Illinois; and Wyatt Wheatley of Granite City, Illinois; his dear siblings, Terri Wheatley and Joseph Wheatley; and his treasured grandchildren, Hyla, Harper, Anora and Rhett. He also leaves behind beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends who will carry his memory in their hearts.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, with visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel in Granite City, Illinois, followed by a funeral service at 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family to establish a trust fund for Mike’s beloved grandchildren — a lasting tribute to the love he had for them.
Though he may be gone from our sight, Mike’s legacy lives on in the lives he built, the love he gave, and the family he cherished so deeply. He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
