Ryan Niedzwiedz Earns Player of the Week Honors from the OVC

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – For the second time this season, SIUE junior first baseman Ryan Niedzwiedz (North Aurora, Illinois) has been tabbed as the Ohio Valley Conference baseball Player of the Week.

In another impressive offensive week for SIUE baseball, Niedzwiedz excelled as the Cougars swept a weekend series from Eastern Illinois.

Niedzwiedz was 8-15 (.533) during the three-game series, while hitting five home runs and driving in eight. He slugged an incredible 1.533 for the week and produced a ridiculous OPS of 2.096 over the three-game series.

Saturday, Niedzwiedz tied SIUE’s single-game record with three home runs, while also setting SIUE’s single-season record of 24 home runs. He followed with two more home runs in the series finale and now has six multi-homer games this season.

Niedzwiedz currently ranks fourth in the NCAA in home runs with 26. He also was Player of the Week March 2, when he also was chosen to Baseball America’s Team of the Week.

The Cougars (30-21, 18-6 OVC) are two games up in the OVC standings and will finish the regular season with a Tuesday contest at SIU Carbondale before playing their final OVC series against UT Martin Thu.-Sat. at Roy E. Lee Field.
