MONDAY, MAY 11 PLAY IT AGAIN SPORTS ROUNDUP

BASEBALL

MARQUETTE CATHOLIC 6, METRO-EAST LUTHERAN 4: After Metro-East took a 3-1 first-inning lead, Marquette scored a single run in the second and four runs in the fifth to take the Gateway Metro Conference win at Lloyd Hopkins Field in Gordon Moore Park.

Eli Rodgers had two hits and three RBIs for the Explorers, while Keller Jacobs fanned three on the mound. Matthew Barber came up with four hits and an RBI for the Knights, while Drake Luebbert struck out four while on the mound.

Marquette is now 10-13, while Metro-East is now 8-11.

ALTON 6, CHAMINADE COLLEGE PREP CATHOLIC 5: Alton scored three runs in the third, one in the sixth, and two in the seventh, then held off a three-run seventh inning rally by Chaminade to take the win at Creve Coeur, Mo., in west St. Louis County.

Jack Puent had two hits for the Redbirds, while Alex Pilger had a hit and two RBIs. Donovan Ducey fanned three while on the mound.

Alton is now 13-14, while the Red Devils slip to 15-11.

FATHER MCGIVNEY CATHOLIC 9, MT. VERNON 5: McGivney scored once in both the first and second, then after Mt. Vernon tied the game in the fourth, scored five runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to take the win at Mt. Vernon.

Issac Wendler had two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs for the Griffins, while Grant Reed struck out five on the mound.

McGivney is now 20-7, while the Rams go to 16-11.

HIGHLAND 4, CIVIC MEMORIAL 2: CM held a 2-1 lead after the first inning, then Highland scored single runs in the third, fifth, and seventh to take the win at the Bethalto Sports Complex.

Brock Rust had a hit and an RBI for the Eagles, while Hudson Wesley struck out three while on the mound.

The Bulldogs are now 9-19, while CM goes to 15-13.

TRIAD 11, MASCOUTAH 1: Triad scored single runs in the first, third, and fifth, along with five runs in the fourth and three in the sixth, to go on to the win at home over Mascoutah.

Kade Rocco had three hits and three RBIs for the Knights, while Keegan Seipp had two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs. Nolan Keller went all the way on the mound, striking out seven.

Triad is now 23-5, while the Indians slip to 22-4,

WATERLOO 4, JERSEY 1: Waterloo scored twice in both the first and third, holding off Jersey to win the Mississippi Valley Conference game at home.

Graham Vanausdoll had a hit and an RBI for the Panthers, while Brody Short had the other hit. Brady Maxeiner had two strikeouts while on the mound.

The Bulldogs are now 16-6, while Jersey goes to 18-9.

MT. STERLING BROWN COUNTY 14, CARROLLTON 1: Brown County scored four runs in the first, twice in the second and fourth, and six times in the third to take the win over visiting Carrollton.

Eli Cox had two hits for the Hawks, while Wyatt Ross and Jayce Steinkuehler had the other hits. Landon Grafford and Charlie Stumpf both struck out two on the mound.

The Hornets are now 16-2-2, while Carrollton is now 11-10.

SOUTHWESTERN 4, CARLINVILLE 3: Southwestern scored twice in the first, and once in both the third and fifth to take the South Central Conference win over Carlinville.

Reed Campbell had three hits and two RBIs for the Piasa Birds, while Carter Watson struck out five on the mound. Michael Kaganich had three hits and two RBIs for the Cavaliers, while Noah Convery came up with four strikeouts.

Southwestern is now 6-22, while Carlinville slips to 5-14.

NASHVILLE 7, COLLINSVILLE 1: Nashville scored three runs in both the second and sixth, and one in the fourth to win over visiting Collinsville.

Ben Tillman had the only hit for the Kahoks, while Braden Henson struck out five on the mound.

The Hornets are now 22-3, while Collinsville is now 10-14.

In other games on the Monday docket, Belleville East won over Belleville Althoff Catholic 8-0, Winchester West Central got past Greenfield Northwestern 3-1, Breese Central won over Red Bud 11-0, Hillsboro throttled Bunker Hill 9-1, Waterloo Gibault Catholic defeated Maryville Christian 13-3, Payson Seymour shut out White Hall North Greene 12-0, and Steeleville defeated Valmeyer 12-8.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

In the boys volleyball schedule on Monday, Father McGivney Catholic won over Alton 25-21, 25-17, and Belleville Althoff Catholic defeated Maryville Christian 25-13, 25-14.
