EDWARDSVILLE – Collinsville coach Matt Pomerantz said his Kahoks have “competed in every game” this spring in 2026, and the team will take a 10-16 overall record and 4-6 Southwestern Conference mark into a matchup on Friday, May 15, 2026, at home against Roxana. On May 18, the Kahoks travel to Centralia and host Alton on Tuesday, May 19.
On Thursday, May 21, Collinsville travels to Alton. On May 23, Collinsville hosts Marion, and then on May 27, it opens regional play against Quincy.
Coach Pomerantz said, “I think except for the game against Mascoutah, we have had a chance to win every single other ball game that we have had this season.”
Pomerantz said Collinsville’s focus has been on improving its offense, pointing to execution in key moments.
“Our hitting is something that is a little of where we need to focus on,” he said. “Clutch hitting, and a little bit more of small ball, too. But we’ve got a little bit of time to continue to work on that, too. So far, I’m really proud of what the guys have done, and we’ve competed in every game.”
The Kahoks’ path in the regional could set up another matchup with Edwardsville.
“We have Quincy first,” Pomerantz said, “and if we beat Quincy, then we get to see Edwardsville again. We are absolutely looking forward to good things.
“The program has moved forward. We just got to execute more on the offensive side, but again, each game, we have definitely had a chance to win, so we hope to catch fire in the last week-and-a-half, and see where it takes us from there.”
In his first year coaching Collinsville, Pomerantz said he has enjoyed the role while also emphasizing the team’s need to keep improving as the postseason approaches.
“It’s been really, really good,” Pomerantz said. “We have been really, really competitive, it’s great. Of course, I’m very tough with the losses, and I always want to win.
“But, I think, if nothing else, we’re learning a lot, the players are learning a lot, and always giving ourselves a chance to win at least makes every game fun. We have things to work on, a lot of opportunity within these practices the next couple of games, and just looking forward to the postseason as well.”
