Joseph L. Wassell, age 84, of Collinsville, IL, born on May 23, 1942, in Springfield, IL, died on May 25, 2026, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, O’Fallon, IL.
Joe was the owner of Joe’s Carpet King for over 40 years. He enjoyed gambling with frequent trips to Las Vegas, Tunica and Biloxi. Joe loved being around all of his family and friends and would host a pool party/bbq every Sunday during the summer months.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Wassell; his children, Joseph A. Wassell and Toni Wassell; his parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Wassell, nee Slazas; and his brother, Jerry Wassell.
He is survived by his significant other and best friend, Patty Hill; his daughter, Tamora “Tammy” (Mike) Grant of Swansea, IL; his grandchildren, Paige E. Wassell, Meghan Esterlein, Sean M. Grant and Jennifer Grant; 11 great grandchildren; and his siblings, Larry Wassell of Buffalo, IL, Gary Wassell of Springfield, IL. Joe is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Kassly Mortuary Ltd., 9900 St. Clair Ave, Fairview Heights, IL Fairview Heights, IL.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL., with Rev. Habermehl officiating. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Collinsville, IL.
A reception will be held after services at the VFW in O’Fallon, IL.
