GRANITE CITY — Granite City High School senior exchange student Jacopo Salato was reunited with his mother, Sabrina, before a recent IHSA boys volleyball regional match against Alton, as she traveled more than 5,000 miles from Italy to see him for the first time in nine months.
The reunion took place at Granite City High School ahead of the match and marked an emotional moment for Salato and his mother after months apart.
Jacopo is a Stillwater Senior Living Male Athlete Of The Month for the Warriors for his efforts with the Granite City boys volleyball team this spring.
“I want to thank everybody, my host family, my mom, my teammates, and my coaches,” the senior volleyball player said at the gathering recently against Alton. “It has been a great experience and the best I could have asked for. I have really enjoyed being here.”
