BELLEVILLE/SWANSEA – Belleville and Swansea police departments took part in the Annual 2026 Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics, with Belleville officers completing their leg of the run and passing the torch to the Swansea Police Department.
The event moved through Belleville and Swansea as officers and supporters carried what Swansea police called the “Flame of Hope” in support of Special Olympics athletes across Illinois.
Belleville Police said that the department “completed their leg of the Annual 2026 Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics today and then passed off the torch to Swansea PD.”
Swansea Police said it “was proud to take part in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics today” and that it received the torch from the Belleville Police Department.
According to Swansea Police, officers, supporters and several Belleville Police Department members carried the torch through Swansea “in celebration of the incredible Special Olympics athletes who inspire communities across Illinois.”
Both departments thanked community members for their support.
Belleville Police said, “The torch run historically supports such a great cause, and we’d like to thank all of you for assisting in showing your support today.”
Swansea Police also thanked those who attended, saying, “Thank you to everyone who came out to cheer us on and show support, even in the rain. We are proud to stand with Special Olympics and serve as Guardians of the Flame!”
