ALTON – Two Alton residents were charged on the same day with fleeing from local law enforcement agencies in two unrelated incidents.
Jerry Richmond Jr., 36, of Alton, was charged on June 1, 2026 with a Class 4 felony count of aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer.
Richmond allegedly attempted to flee from a Madison Police officer who had signaled for him to stop the vehicle he was driving on May 30, 2026. Charging documents state his attempted flight from the officer exceeded 21 mph over the legal speed limit.
According to the state’s petition to deny Richmond’s pretrial release from custody, Richmond’s high-speed flight from the officer began after an attempted traffic stop for “registration issues.”
“The vehicle fled at over 90 mph in a 30 mph zone, disregarding traffic control devices and turning into the wrong lane of traffic,” the petition states. “Defendant eventually stopped on Route 3 and fled his vehicle on foot, but was apprehended.”
Richmond allegedly claimed that he fled due to having an active warrant with the United States Marshals Service. At the time of this latest offense, Richmond was reportedly on pretrial release in a 2024 Madison County case in which he was charged with possessing a firearm as a felon.
The Madison Police Department presented the latest case against Richmond, who currently remains in custody at the Madison County Jail.
Another Alton resident was charged in a separate but similar case also filed on June 1, 2026.
28-year-old Deveon K. Green faces a Class 4 felony count of aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer stemming from an alleged incident on Jan. 19, 2026.
Green is accused of attempting to flee from a Pontoon Beach Police officer who had signaled for him to stop the vehicle he was driving, reportedly reaching speeds more than 21 mph over the legal speed limit during the attempted flight.
Green was ordered released from custody pending trial in the case presented by the Pontoon Beach Police Department.
All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
