
Tommy J. Cankar, 73, of Belleville, IL, born Sunday, May 17, 1953, in Belleville, IL, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2026 at Memorial Hospital West in Belleville, IL.
Tom dedicated much of his career to the automotive industry, working as an auto parts dealer for Stone Wheel Inc. and Parts Manager for Auffenberg Belleville. Known for his knowledge, reliability, and willingness to help others, he built lasting relationships with customers and colleagues throughout the years.
A proud member of the Millstadt Sportsman Club and the Belleville Gear Jammers Car Club, Tom shared his enthusiasm for classic cars with fellow enthusiasts throughout the region. He served as President of the Belleville Gear Jammers, helping to grow the club and foster a sense of camaraderie among its members. Among his prized possessions was his beloved 1955 Buick Special, a car that reflected both his appreciation for classic craftsmanship and his dedication to the hobby he loved.
Tom’s passion for racing was unmatched. Whether watching NASCAR, following dirt track racing, attending races, or discussing engines and drivers with friends, he found joy in all things racing.
His memory will continue to ride on in every classic car show, every race day, and every story shared among those who loved him.
