
EDWARDSVILLE – Edwardsville High School’s boys basketball team is set to host a showcase tournament, in which St. Louis area schools, as well as schools from Illinois, Missouri, and Iowa, will showcase their talent to college recruiters and fans throughout the area.
The showcase will be held Friday-Sunday at both Lucco-Jackson Gym and Liberty Middle School, and will have Metro-East teams such as the Tigers, Collinsville, Father McGivney Catholic, Breese Mater Dei Catholic, Belleville East, Belleville Althoff Catholic, Staunton, Alton, Mascoutah, Belleville West, Trenton Wesclin, O’Fallon, Granite City, Freeburg, Breese Central, Maryville Christian, Madison, and Calhoun.
In addition, St. Louis powers such as Vashon, CBC, Ladue Horton Watkins, St. Louis Lift For Life Academy, Kirkwood, Principia, St. John Vianney Catholic, Mary Institute-Country Day, De Smet Jesuit, and Westminster Christian will also compete, alongside Illinois schools such as Chicago Wendell Phillips, Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin Catholic, Taylorville, Normal Community, Quincy, Normal University, Frankfort Lincoln-Way East, and Chicago Brother Rice Catholic, among other schools.
A total of 70 schools will compete in the event, which is sanctioned by the NCAA, and will have major college coaches in attendance.
Collinsville will play at noon on Friday against Bayless from South St. Louis County at Edwardsville, then meets Carterville Friday evening at 6 p.m. at Liberty, then plays twice on Saturday, meeting Southwestern Conference newcomer Mascoutah at 10:30 a.m. at Liberty, then finishes up against Ladue at 12:30 p.m. back at Edwardsville High. The host Tigers open against Chicagoland school Romeoville Friday at 2 p.m., then play against Brother Rice Saturday at 9:30 a.m., while a second team takes on a second team from Principia, in west St. Louis County, also at 9:30 a.m. The Tigers then play Lincoln-Way East at 11:30 a.m., then play their final game against Butler College Prep of Chicago Sunday at 12 noon.
Marquette Catholic plays at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday at Edwardsville High School against Mascoutah and at 12:30 against Springfield at Liberty.
Calhoun plays at 3:30 on Saturday at Liberty against Springfield Southeast and at 7:30 against Miller Career Academy. On Sunday, Calhoun plays at 9 a.m. against Springfield Lanphier and at 2 p.m. against Butler College Prep at Edwardsville High School.
Alton will meet MICDS to open up its games at 4 p.m., on Friday at Liberty, then plays against Westminster Christian at Edwardsville at 6 p.m., then goes up against Lincoln on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Liberty, then finishes up against Confluence Academy of St. Louis, also at Liberty, at 1:30 p.m. The Griffins open their schedule against Kankakee Friday at 5 p.m. at Edwardsville, then meet Mater Dei at 7 p.m. on Friday. McGivney then meets Althoff at Edwardsville Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m., then concludes against Okawville Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Edwardsville.
Staunton plays at 1 p.m. Friday against MICDS of St. Louis at EHS. Staunton then plays Friday at 5 p.m. at EHS against Lincoln-Way West from Chicago.
Granite City opens up against Wendell Phillips Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Edwardsville, then plays Lift For Life at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, also at Edwardsville, then plays twice on Sunday, against Pawnee at 9 a.m., then finishes up against Breese Central at 11 a.m., both games at Edwardsville.
Saturday, Staunton will face Westminster of St. Louis at 9:30 a.m. at Edwardsville High and at 1:30 p.m. against Lincoln-Way East.
