GLEN CARBON – Glen Carbon may soon be the new home of a corporate headquarters in Meridian Plaza, though few details have been made public.
A site plan for a three-story office building on Lot 6 of Meridian Plaza and a related amendment to the Meridian Plaza Planned Development Procedure (PDP) were both approved at the June 28, 2026 Glen Carbon Village Board meeting.
Community Development Director Erika Heil said the new office building will be built on the corner of Illinois Route 157 and Meridian Road, marking the “cornerstone piece of Meridian Plaza.”
Mayor Bob Marcus asked if this building will house the relocation of a corporate headquarters, which Heil confirmed without naming the corporation. She said the village has been working with architectural and engineering firms on the project, but has not yet made contact with the corporation in question.
The site plan developed by Thouvenot, Wade & Moerchen, Inc. (TWM) shows a three-story building measuring 9,066 square feet per story and zoned as “general commercial.” The property owner is listed as GCT Holdings LLC.
Trustee Ben Maliszewski questioned the site’s true square footage, noting two sets of measurements which differ by about 3,000 square feet. Justin Venvertloh with TWM said each floor will have around 6,000 square feet of actual office space, with the remaining square footage dedicated to restrooms, hallways, elevator shafts, and other “common space” areas.
Heil said the Meridian Plaza PDP amendment includes a parking variance seeking to reduce the number of parking spaces at the site by 10. With a village parking requirement of one space per 250 square feet, the site would have normally required 109 parking spaces; the final plan calls for 99 spaces, including four ADA spaces.
