EDWARDSVILLE – A new parking ban along a narrow Edwardsville street aims to ease trash pickup issues for neighborhood residents while improving access during emergencies.
Edwardsville City Council members unanimously approved an ordinance prohibiting parking on the east side of Maple Street at their Aug. 4, 2026 meeting. Alderman Chris Farrar was absent.
The ordinance specifically prohibits parking on Maple Street from St. Louis Street to Randle Street at all times. The new parking ban officially takes effect on Friday, Aug. 14, 2026.
“This was a resident-initiated initiative,” Alderman William Krause said. “The Police Department did reach out for sort of a survey of the residents that would be affected in that neighborhood.”
Alderman SJ Morrison said the new restriction aims to ease trash and recycling pickup issues reported by residents along Maple Street.
“It’s a narrow side street off of St. Louis Street,” Morrison said. “What’s happening, essentially, is garbage trucks are having a hard time getting through when people are parked on both sides of the street.”
Morrison said the parking ban also increases public safety by making the area more accessible to firetrucks and other emergency vehicles.
This marks an extension of an existing no-parking zone which runs along both sides of St. Louis Street.
