Thomas Arterburn

Thomas “Tom” Robert Arterburn, 62, of Belleville, IL, born January 21, 1964, in East St. Louis, IL, died Saturday, August 1, 2026, at his residence.

Mr. Arterburn was a writer for the Wall Street Journal, the Belleville News Democrat, and the St. Louis Riverfront Times. He was an advocate for freedom and justice for the underserved. After the September 11 attacks, he used his career in journalism to give voice to those affected by the tragedy. Later, he wrote resumes for veterans entering the job market after their service in the Iraq War.

Around that time, he met his wife. For almost 25 years, Tom and Adriana traveled the country, worked on projects around the house, and enjoyed dates and festivals in Downtown Belleville. As a father, Tom was always eager to support his children, whether through hardship or triumph. He offered advice to his student journalist daughter and cheered on his class president son. He inspired them to use their talents to help others. Tom’s dog, Margo, was his best friend, and he brought her with him everywhere he went. Tom was a true gentleman, generous with his time, and dearly loving towards his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Mary Rita, nee Nolan, Arterburn.

Surviving are his wife, Adriana Arango-Arterburn; a daughter, Katy Arterburn; a son, Patrick Arterburn; and many dear cousins.
