Police searched the area with cadaver dogs but found nothing further.

The Madison County Coroner’s office gave the skull to an anthropologist. Authorities said there was no obvious sign of trauma.

Police are continuing dental comparisons but have ruled out the possibility that the skull belongs to either of two missing individuals in the region.

The investigation remains ongoing.
