CM Has Mixed Results In First Day Of IHSA Class 2A State Wrestling Finals

CHAMPAIGN – It was a mixed results day for area wrestlers on the first day of the IHSA State Wrestling tournament in Champaign. The tournament runs through Saturday. CM’s Bryce Griffin is the only local 2A wrestler who is 2-0, the other wrestlers are 1-1.

In the 113 weight class CM’s Avery Jamie dropped a 12-7 decision to Victor Alvarado. Jamie will wrestle tomorrow in the wrestlebacks. 

CM’s Bradley Ruckman went 1-1 for the day in the 120-pound weight class. In his first match he faced Angel Ramirez by pinfall at 3:41. In his second match of the day he dropped a close one 3-1 to Rocky Almendarez (Galesburg).

At 144 pounds, Nathen Herrin was defeated by St. Rita’s Sean Larkin 9-0 and

165 pounds, the Eagles’ James Wojcikiewicz lost to Dunlap’s Niuck Mueller 9-0.

CM’s Caleb Scott went 1-1 for the day. In his first match he won against Daniel McGhee (Rock Island) by pinfall. In his second match he faced Tommy Banas and lost a close decision 5-3. 

CM’s Bryce Griffin went 2-0 on the first day. In the first match, Griffin pinned Xander York in 39 seconds, and in his second match 9-2 decision over Harrison Konder.

Highland’s Tyson Rakers went 1-1 on Thursday. In his first match, he won a tight battle 2-0 decision over Steven Marvin (Morton), and in his second match he dropped a 6-1 decision to David Mayora (Montini)
