Bruce Dexter King, age 74 of Highland, IL, died Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.
He was born on Friday, December 29, 1950, in Savannah, GA, the son of Tholan and Carolyn (nee Fountain) King.
Bruce was born in Savannah, Georgia and grew up as part of a dear, loving, household, surrounded by his parents, brother Clay and extended family of very close aunts, uncles, grandmother and cousins.
He graduated from Windsor Forest High School, where he was elected class president in his senior year. He graduated with a doctorate degree from the University of Georgia in Athens, where he acquired a lifelong love for UGA Bulldog football.
After Georgia, he worked at the University of Missouri doing research, then went on to an agribusiness, Syntex in Springfield, Missouri. In 1986, he moved to Highland where he met Annette. Bruce and Annette loved to travel. Their adventures took them to China, a river cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam, an ocean cruise, Alaska, Hawaii and Yellowstone National Park. Bruce was known for his kindness, unselfishness, and compassion for others.

- Cousins – Many in Georgia
He was preceded in death by:
- Father – Tholan King
- Mother – Carolyn King (nee Fountain)
Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.
Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.
