Douglas S. Ray, 45, of Granite City, was charged on Dec. 9, 1979 with one count each of offenses related to motor vehicles (a Class 2 felony) and aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer (a Class 4 felony).

On Nov. 2, 2025, Ray was allegedly knowingly in possession of a 2022 Dodge Durango which he reportedly knew had been stolen. He is additionally accused of attempting to flee from an officer who gave Ray a visual or audible signal to stop his vehicle, fleeing at over 21 mph above the legal speed limit.

A petition to deny Ray’s pretrial release from custody was filed by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office. According to the petition, Ray fled from an attempted traffic stop after Granite City Police officers identified Ray as the driver of a vehicle which had been reported as stolen.

“During defendant’s flight, he traveled at speeds in excess of 100 mph while on I-55,” the petition states. “Defendant drove recklessly through traffic and fled into Downtown St. Louis. Defendant continued fleeing through residential neighborhoods at high rates of speeds.”

The petition notes Ray was on pretrial release from custody at the time of these latest offenses, after being charged with possession of burglary tools in another Madison County felony case from earlier this year. He was ordered remanded to jail for his initial court appearance in the case presented by the Granite City Police Department.

Another Granite City man, 27-year-old Tyriq J. Faulker, was charged on Nov. 19, 2025 with a Class 2 felony count of unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle. On Nov. 18, 2025, Faulkner allegedly possessed a Chevrolet Camaro bearing an Illinois registration number which he reportedly knew to be stolen.

Jeremiah D. Nishke, 43, also of Granite City, was charged separately on Nov. 19, 2025 with two counts of offenses related to motor vehicles, both Class 2 felonies. Nishke reportedly knowingly possessed two stolen vehicles, including a 1998 Toyota Avalon and a 1993 Dodge Ram, on Sept. 14, 2025.

The Metro East Auto Theft Task Force presented the cases against Faulkner and Nishke, both of whom were ordered released from custody pending trial.

All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
