Our Daily Show Interview! Wish Home Raffle, Home Expo, and More for HBRMEA
MASCOUTAH – Community members have the chance to win an $800,000 custom union-built home in Mascoutah.
The Home Builders and Remodelers Metro East Association has collaborated with local unions to build the house, which will be raffled off this spring. Proceeds from the raffle will go to Make-A-Wish Illinois and Make-A-Wish Missouri to support kids with critical illnesses.
“The house is still under construction. It’s not completed yet. But tickets are on sale,” said Shannon Stelling, executive director of HBRMEA.
The house has five bedrooms, three bathrooms, a walkout basement and a walk-through pantry, as well as “custom everything” inside, including custom cabinets and more, Stelling said. She expressed her appreciation for the unions and 40 local companies that have donated their time and labor to build the house.
Tickets for the raffle cost $100. The grand prize winner can choose between the house or $300,000 cash.
In order to raffle off the house, HBRMEA aims to sell 13,000 tickets. If they do not reach that number, the house will be sold, and proceeds from the sale will go to Make-A-Wish instead. The winner will receive cash. Last year’s home was sold instead of raffled, and the winner walked away with $80,000.
Located in Mascoutah, the house is near Scott Air Force Base and downtown St. Louis. Stelling noted that the Mascoutah area is “booming,” and many people want to buy homes in town. She encourages people to take a chance on the raffle.
“Home values are going up in Mascoutah,” she said. “There’s a lot of great things. It’s hard to find homes in Mascoutah. It’s very hard to find homes in Mascoutah. So this is a positive thing if you want a house in Mascoutah.”
The goal of the raffle is to support kids and families through Make-A-Wish. Stelling noted that there are over 2,500 kids in Illinois and Missouri who are waiting for their wishes to come true through Make-A-Wish.
“If you’ve got $100, invest it in making a difference in kids’ lives,” she said. “Make-A-Wish makes a difference in so many kids’ lives, thousands of kids’ lives a year.”
