David Niemeyer

David Dwayne Niemeyer, 63, passed away on May 25, 2026, with his loved ones by his side. Though his family’s hearts are heavy, they find comfort in the countless memories, laughter, and love he leaves behind.

David was born on July 7, 1962, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Joseph Morelock and Glenda Wilson, who preceded him in death.

On September 29, 1989, David married the love of his life, Sonia Bristol, in Gallatin, Tennessee. Together they built a life centered around family, humor, and unwavering love. Through the years, David was a dedicated provider and hardworking man. He worked as a dispatcher for a fueling company and, prior to that, spent more than twenty years managing a convenience store where he built lasting relationships and was known for his dependable nature and quick wit.

David will be remembered most for his larger-than-life personality and his wicked sense of humor. He loved to stir the pot just enough to get a reaction, teasing family and friends, pulling pranks, and making sure life never felt too serious. If there was an opportunity to make someone laugh—or groan at one of his jokes—David took it.

Beneath that playful spirit was a man with a deeply loving heart. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who brought endless pride and happiness to his life. In his most recent years, David shared a special bond with his faithful companion and best buddy, Oliver “Ollie.” The two were rarely apart, spending their days together and often sharing snacks and quiet moments that became some of David’s favorite routines.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Sonia Niemeyer; his children, Jeremy Niemeyer, Jessica Niemeyer, and Mitchell (Louise) Niemeyer; his cherished grandchildren, Bella, Journei, Ember, Rue, Knox, Elise, Penny, and Shayne; his siblings, Bob (Sandy) Niemeyer, Tracy Morelock Hamilton and Jacque Morelock.

Along with his parents, David was preceded in death by those who welcomed him home including two brothers, Chuck Niemeyer and Joey Morelock.

David’s legacy will live on in every harmless prank, every shared laugh, and every moment spent with those we love most.

In celebration of his life, a memorial gathering of family and friends will be on Saturday, May 30, from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Rode Park, 1540 Amos Avenue in Granite City. A service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Rode park in behind the bank on Nameoki Road between Walgreens and Nicks. Please join us in celebrating David’s life!
