EDWARDSVILLE — The Edwardsville Police Department responded for a second time in two weeks to a reported burglary in progress at a vacant former medical building at 1261 University Drive in Edwardsville, taking two suspects into custody Tuesday morning, Jan. 20, 2026.
Officers arrived just after 7 a.m. Jan. 20, 2026, following a report of a burglary at the site. Upon arrival, police observed one female retreating into the building and another leaving on foot. After establishing a perimeter and conducting an extensive search, officers located one suspect inside the building and the other in a nearby apartment complex.
The two individuals, identified as Brittney Sawyer, 31, and Raven Hill, 37, both of St. Louis, were previously arrested at the same location during an earlier incident on Jan. 7, 2026. On that date, Edwardsville police responded to a burglary report at the site around 3 p.m. After several hours and assistance from multiple agencies, three people were taken into custody, including Sawyer and Hill.
On Jan. 21, the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office filed formal criminal charges against Sawyer and Hill. Both face three counts: burglary (Class 2 felony), criminal damage to property (Class 2 felony), and possession of burglary tools (Class 4 felony). As of Jan. 22, they remained in custody at the Madison County Jail.
These charges are based on probable cause. The defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
