ST. LOUIS COUNTY – A 17-year-old male was arrested Sunday and remanded to the custody of the St. Louis County Family Court in connection with the fatal shooting of 28-year-old Shannon O’Brien, whose death is under investigation after officers responded to reports of shots fired in Ferguson, Missouri, police said. O’Brien had family ties to Edwardsville and also previously attended EHS.
The 17-year-old suspect was arrested Feb. 1, 2026, on allegations of second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon, according to St. Louis County officials. Police said they had no further details to release.
O’Brien, 28, was identified as the person who died in the shooting. She lived in the 4300 block of De Tonty Street in St. Louis, Mo., 63110, police said.
St. Louis County Police Department Bureau of Crimes Against Persons detectives are investigating the homicide, which occurred in the 1700 block of Windward Court in Ferguson.
Officers from the Ferguson Police Department responded to a call for shots fired just before 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, 2026, in the 1700 block of Windward Court, police said. Responding officers located an adult female suffering from at least one apparent gunshot injury. The victim died at the scene, police said.
The Ferguson Police Department requested that St. Louis County Police detectives lead the homicide investigation.
Police described the case as an active investigation and said preliminary details may change.
