John Oswald

John Stanley Oswald, age 69, of Granite City, Illinois, passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Gateway Regional Medical Center, with his loving family faithfully by his side.

Born on August 28, 1956, in Chicago, Illinois, John was the son of the late Charles and Elaine (Mueller) Oswald.

John proudly served his country in the United States Army, honoring his nation with courage and integrity. On May 18, 1982, he married the love of his life, Lisa Stoutes, in Hartburg, Texas. Their marriage of more than four decades was a testament to devotion, partnership, and unwavering love.

A faithful servant of God, John answered the call to ministry with humility and dedication. He served as Associate Pastor at Grace Baptist Church in Granite City and as Pastor of Plainview Baptist Church in Plainview, Illinois, along with ministering in other churches throughout the area. His greatest joy was sharing the Gospel, encouraging others, and living out his faith in everyday life.

John never met a stranger. With a warm smile and gentle spirit, he was always ready to lend a helping hand, offer wise counsel, or simply listen. Whether casting a fishing line, enjoying computer games, building computers or gathering with family, John treasured the simple blessings of life. Above all, he cherished time spent with his beloved family and dear friends.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his siblings, Dina Oswald, Sherry Oswald, and Kenneth Oswald.

He leaves behind his devoted wife, Lisa Oswald of Granite City; his loving children, Ben (Sharees Burrage) Oswald of Collinsville, Michelle Oswald of Cottage Hills, Hope Oswald of Granite City, and Michaia Oswald of Cottage Hills; his dear brothers, Charles Oswald and Russell Oswald; his beloved “grand dogs,” Cody, Billy, and Odin; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, church family, and countless friends whose lives he deeply touched.

Memorial visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 23, 2026, at Irwin Chapel in Granite City, Illinois.

In celebration of his life and legacy of faith, a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Irwin Chapel in Granite City. John will be laid to rest at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri, with full military honors conducted by the United States Army.

Memorial donations may be made to the family and will be accepted at the funeral home.
