MONROE COUNTY – A two-vehicle head-on collision that drew in a third car left one woman dead and three others injured Wednesday evening in Monroe County, authorities said.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said it received a report of a traffic crash with injuries at about 6:16 p.m. Feb. 25, 2026, near S. Rockport Road at West Stansifer Court. Preliminary evidence indicates a northbound Subaru crossed left of center into the southbound lane and collided head-on with a Kia, and a third vehicle, a Toyota, then also became involved.
The driver of the Kia, a 74-year-old Bloomington woman, was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.
The driver of the Subaru, a 48-year-old Bloomington man, was taken to the hospital with injuries. A 7-year-old child who was a passenger in the Subaru was also transported to the hospital with serious injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.
The driver of the third vehicle, a 58-year-old Bloomington man, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, authorities said.
Investigators with the Monroe County Major Crash Investigation Team responded, and the roadway was closed for several hours for reconstruction.
The investigation remains ongoing, and more details will be released when available, the sheriff’s office said.
