BELLEVILLE – The Belleville Police Department is investigating the death of a 78-year-old man found inside a home Sunday morning, March 15, 2026, after officers were dispatched to an unknown disturbance in the 200 block of Union Avenue, authorities said.
Belleville Police Department officers were sent to the scene on Union Avenue at about 11:11 a.m. on March 15, 2026, police said. When they arrived, they located the man inside the residence.
“Officers and EMS attempted to render first aid; however, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene,” the Belleville Police Department said.
Belleville Police detectives and the department’s Crime Scene Unit responded to process the scene and began a homicide investigation, police said.
“A short time later, a known person of interest was located and taken into custody in St. Louis by Belleville detectives and St. Louis City officers,” the department said.
Belleville Police said Sunday the person “is currently being held at a local St. Louis precinct as the investigation continues.” Belleville Police described the case as “an active and ongoing investigation” and said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
