ST. LOUIS COUNTY – St. Louis County prosecutors have charged Connor Will, a 30-year-old Eureka, Mo., man, in connection with an officer-involved shooting during a reported home break-in and hostage situation early Sunday, March 29, 2026, in Shrewsbury, Missouri, authorities said.
The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office issued charges Sunday, March 29, against Will, of the 600 block of Butler Drive in Eureka, for first-degree burglary, two counts of armed criminal action, first-degree kidnapping, unlawful use of a weapon, and resisting arrest/detention/stop by fleeing creating a substantial risk of serious injury or death to any person. Will is being held on a $500,000, cash-only bond with no 10% option, and he remains hospitalized in police custody, according to a news release dated March 30.
The shooting happened in the 7500 block of Murdoch Avenue in the city of Shrewsbury, police said.
According to the probable cause statement, officers responded to a 911 call from a woman who reported someone had broken into their home at around 2 a.m. Shrewsbury police arrived first and found the defendant inside the home with a gun pointed toward a male victim in a bedroom, the statement said. A tactical team was called for what authorities described as an ongoing hostage situation, and a negotiator attempted to defuse it.
Police previously said Shrewsbury officers were dispatched at about 2:08 a.m. to a call for service for a domestic disturbance and discovered a suspect who had forced his way into a home, armed with a firearm and holding an adult male victim at gunpoint. The St. Louis County Police Department Tactical Operations Unit and Crisis Negotiations Team were requested at about 2:30 a.m., and negotiators spoke with the suspect for more than an hour “in an attempt to de-escalate the situation,” police said.
“During negotiations, Defendant lunges toward the victim with gun and knife in hand and is shot by law enforcement,” the probable cause statement said.
Police said that just after 5:32 a.m., the suspect pointed his firearm at the victim and a St. Louis County police tactical operations officer fired, striking the suspect at least one time. The suspect was taken to an area hospital. The victim was not injured, and no officers were physically injured, police said.
The probable cause statement said the victim told officers he and his wife were awakened by beating on the door early in the morning, and that he then saw the defendant, armed with a knife and gun, enter the home. The victim said his wife escaped, but he was ordered to sit in a corner and contact his daughter and have her speak with the defendant, the statement said. Officers arrived while he was still being detained, according to the statement.
St. Louis County Police Department Bureau of Crimes Against Persons detectives are handling the investigation. Police said it remains active and preliminary details could change.
Authorities also noted that charges are accusations and defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. Police asked anyone with information to contact the St. Louis County Police Department at 636-529-8210.
