GRANITE CITY – Two men from Belleville and Caseyville faces felony charges in separate cases of burglary recently filed in Madison County.
Marlon A. Taylor, 41, of Caseyville, Ill., was charged on April 2, 2026 with a Class 1 felony count of residential burglary. He allegedly entered a Granite City residence in the 3300 block of Lydia Lane with the intent to commit a theft on April 1, 2026.
The Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a petition to deny Taylor’s pretrial release from custody in this case. According to the petition, Taylor was reportedly looking inside the windows of nearby residences and walking through yards before officers located and identified him. The victim reported seeing Taylor inside the screened in porch of her residence, where she had not authorized him to be.
Before making contact with Taylor, officers reportedly saw him throw “an unknown item in the grass,” and upon leaving the victim’s home, the victim reported seeing him toss another unknown item “in the bushes.” Officers later identified the items as the victim’s garage door opener and coin purse.
The state’s petition was granted, with a Detention Order filed in this case noting Taylor was on pretrial release from custody in two prior Madison County cases. The Detention Order also cites his repeated failure to comply with court orders and states he “does not remember these events on account of significant substance abuse.”
A Belleville man faces several felony counts in an unrelated burglary case also filed on April 2, 2026.
18-year-old Brenden McGary faces seven counts of burglary, each Class 2 felonies, stemming from a series of offenses on April 1, 2026.
McGary allegedly knowingly and without authority entered the motor vehicles of seven different victims which were located at the Village Lane Apartments in Granite City with the intent to commit multiple thefts.
The Granite City Police Dpeartment presented both cases against McGary and Taylor. McGary was ordered released from custody pending trial, while Taylor currently remains in custody in the Madison County Jail.
All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
