Lynn R. Hester, 90, passed away peacefully at The Boulevard of Saint Peters in Saint Peters, Missouri. He was born on October 6, 1935, in Tip Top, Tennessee, the son of the late Gladys (Carney) Gregory and Arthur Lee Hester.
Lynn married the love of his life, Faye Lynn Bridges, on March 16, 1960, in Belleville, Illinois. Together, they built a life centered on love, faith, and family.
Lynn was a proud and dedicated employee of Granite City Steel, beginning his career at just 16 years old and retiring in 1994 after many years of hard work and commitment. He took great pride in providing for his family and was respected by all who worked alongside him. Lynn loved to golf and spent many happy days on the course in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. He also found great joy in volunteering with Habitat for Humanity.
A man of deep and abiding Christian faith, Lynn carried his beliefs with him throughout his life. He was a devoted member of Grace Baptist Church in Granite City, later Barcelona Road Baptist Church in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, and most recently First Baptist Church of Saint Charles, Missouri.
Lynn had a gift for connecting with people. He never met a stranger and was known for his warm heart, quick wit, and ability to make others laugh. He found joy in helping others and brought light to every room he entered. In the later years of his life, while in Memory Care, he continued to share his kindness and humor, earning the affectionate title of “Mayor” among his friends.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Amy Scarborough, and her husband, Steve, of St. Charles, Missouri, and his granddaughter, Lindsey Scarborough, of Jacksonville, Illinois. Brother and sister-in-law, Dwain and Linda Bridges of Glen Carbon, Illinois. Niece, Emily Cottrell, and her children, Wyatt and Brynna, of Edwardsville, Illinois. Nephew, Kyle Bridges, and his wife, Linda, of Las Vegas, Nevada.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Faye Hester; his brothers, Charlie and Max Hester; his sisters, Betty Jackson and Sandy Ousley; and his beloved grand-dog, Lily.
Amy and Steve extend a heartfelt thanks to the compassionate team at The Boulevard of Saint Peters for their loving care over the past several years, as well as the St. Croix Hospice team for their support and comfort during his final days.
Private burial will take place at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Dementia Life STL, whose music therapy program helped rekindle Lynn’s love of singing and brought him great joy in his later years (www.dementialife.care).
Lynn will be remembered for his loving spirit, his unwavering faith, and the joy and laughter he brought to so many. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
