ST. LOUIS COUNTY – St. Louis County Police are investigating a double shooting that left one man dead early Tuesday, April 21, 2026, in the 1100 block of Congress Avenue, after officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation, authorities said.
The shooting happened at about 2:40 a.m. April 21, 2026, according to the St. Louis County Police Department. Officers from the department’s North County Precinct arrived and found two adult males suffering from apparent gunshot injuries, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Bryant Whitley, 37 years of age, of the 6100 block of Lucille Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63136.
One of the men was taken to an area hospital for lifesaving treatment but later died, police said. The second man was transported to an area hospital and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Detectives with the St. Louis County Police Department Bureau of Crimes Against Persons have identified a person of interest and are interviewing that individual, police said.
“This is an active investigation, and details could change as the investigation progresses,” the department said, adding that additional information will be released as it becomes available.
