GRANITE CITY – A Granite City man accused of robbing someone while armed with a knife has been detained on a major felony charge in Madison County.
Donald E. Pleasant III, 28, of Granite City, was charged on April 24, 2026 with one count of armed robbery, a Class X felony.
Pleasant allegedly knowingly stole a cross body bag containing personal items from another person by threatening the use of force while armed with a knife on April 23, 2026.
A petition to deny Pleasant’s pretrial release from custody was filed by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office. According to the petition, the victim reported being followed out of a store by two individuals following a confrontation.
“One suspect displayed a knife, demanding his bag,” the petition states. “The suspect then took his bag with personal items inside and fled.”
Pleasant was later identified as the suspect by a witness and was located by officers nearby. He then “admitted to displaying the knife and taking the victim’s bag,” according to the petition.
The Granite City Police Department presented the case against Pleasant, who currently remains in custody at the Madison County Jail.
All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
