The award recognizes Allen for her work to create “a school environment where every student feels welcomed, respected, and represented.” The award information said Allen is “a steadfast champion for equity and inclusion” whose leadership, cultural-awareness initiatives, and dedication to elevating diverse voices have helped build “a stronger, more inclusive school community.”

Students and colleagues described Allen as a consistent and caring presence at Leclaire School.

“Miss Allen is a wonderful reading teacher and she does everything for us,” students Zoey and Kylee said. They added, “She is an awesome teacher. She has a kind heart and never gives up on our lives.”

Sydney Layton, another teacher, said students love seeing Allen.

Leclaire Principal Donny Gunter said Allen’s impact at the school began before his arrival.

“Lisa’s impact long before I got here,” Principal Gunter said. “She is rock-solid, steady, and there for kids and adults; in the beginning, she doesn’t turn who she is off and on. I think she always looks for inequities, how to address those, and does good for people without a voice.”

One of the Leclaire secretaries described Allen as “a strong, quiet, and calming presence.”

Another Leclaire teacher said Allen is “undoubtedly one of the most passionate people we know and does it all with patience and understanding.”

Another teacher said Allen is “a lifelong learner” who has “a love for mindfulness.”

Colleagues also praised Allen as “a phenomenal co-worker,” while students offered a final message: “Congratulations, Miss Allen, we love you.”
