Montez L. Fuller, 43, of Madison, Ill., was charged with two Class 1 felony counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm and one Class 2 felony count of felon in possession of a weapon on May 14, 2026.

Two days earlier, on May 12, Fuller allegedly knowingly discharged a firearm in the direction of a vehicle that he knew or should have known was occupied by two people. The weapon, a 9mm Hi Point handgun, was illegal for Fuller to possess as a felon previously convicted of armed bank robbery in 2008.

The Madison County state’s attorney’s office filed a petition to deny Fuller’s pretrial release from custody in this case. The petition states the victims identified Fuller as “the suspect who pursued them in a motor vehicle, repeatedly shooting at their car.”

“Victims fled to a nearby business, where defendant continued following, saying to bystanders that he intended to kill the victims,” the petition states. “Defendant then fled.”

Officers found 9mm shell casings in the roadway, as well as damage to the victims’ vehicle, according to the petition. Fuller was eventually located by police in East St. Louis and found in possession of a 9mm handgun and an AR platform rifle.

“During his arrest, he indicated that if given the chance, he would return and kill the victims,” the petition states.

The Granite City Police Department investigated the case against Fuller, who remains in custody at the Madison County Jail.

All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
