Harold Rose

Harold Dale “Toad” Rose, Jr., age 75 of Highland, IL, died Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at his home in Highland, IL.

He was born on Tuesday, May 15, 1951, in Granite City, IL, the son of Harold and Rosemary (nee Mount) Rose.

He was a member of Masonic Lodge #583 – Highland (33rd Degree Master Mason), Scottish Rite – Bodies of Valley of Southern IL, Ainad Temple (Ma Cli Bo, Silver Lake Shrine Club).

Dale was a 1970 graduate of Triad High School. He worked for many years as an Engineer for Amtrak before retiring. Dale lived life with a true passion for the outdoors and a gift for working with his hands. An avid outdoorsman, he was happiest when he was casting a line on the water, walking the woods during hunting season, or spending a sunny afternoon on the golf course. His creativity shone through his hobbies; he meticulously crafted his own fishing lures and woodworking. Dale also brought joy to his family and friends through his kitchen talents, spending hours canning his famous, delicious homemade pickles and salsa.

Above all, Dale’s greatest love and proudest achievement was his family. He cherished every moment spent together, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and beautiful memories.

Dale is survived by his children, Shawn Dale (Darla) Rose of Highland, IL and Bridget (William) Viehweg of East Alton, IL; grandchildren – Alexie Rose and Nathan Viehweg; and former wife – Diane Bornhauser.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Dale Rose, Sr. (died 4/14/2006) and Rosemary Rose, nee Mount (died 5/28/2021) and brothers, Thomas A. Rose (died 1/18/2009) and Michael “Mike” L. Rose (died 2/19/2015).

Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.

Funeral Service will be at 4:00 PM on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.

A Private Interment will be at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Masonic Lodge #583 or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
