IHSA PLAYOFFS — REGIONAL SEMIFINALS
HARDIN CALHOUN 3, CARROLLTON 0: In the second semifinal of the Class
1A Calhoun regional, the host Warriors scored twice in the second, then added
one more run in the sixth ht shut out Carrollton.
Jack Zipprich had two hits and an RBI for Calhoun, while Earl Elmore went all
the way on the mound, striking out four. Both Charlie Stumpf and Eli Cox had
two hits each for the Hawks, while Cox fanned 10 while on the mound.
The Warriors are now 20-12, and meet Pawnee for the regional championship
Saturday at 11 a.m. Carrollton ends its season 11-14.
O’FALLON 1, ALTON 0: In the second semifinal of the Class 4A Belleville East
regional, O’Fallon scored the only run of the game in the first, then made it stand
up as the Panthers eliminated Alton.
Jack Puent and Logan Hickman had the only two hits for the Redbirds, while
Anderson Kaufmann fanned five on the mound.
O’Fallon is now 26-10, and meets Belleville West for the regional title Saturday at
10 a.m. Alton ends the season 17-17.
In other regional semifinal games on Thursday, in the Class 2A regional at
Carterville, Metropolis Massac County eliminated Red Bud 8-3, and in the Class
3A Marion regional, Waterloo won over Carbondale 6-1.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
IHSA PLAYOFFS — REGIONAL FINALS
In a pair of regional finals of the boys volleyball playoffs, at Edwardsville,
O’Fallon won over the host Tigers 25-17, 25-19, while at Belleville East, the
Lancers defeated Belleville Althoff Catholic 22-25, 25-20, 25-17.
SOFTBALL
IHSA PLAYOFFS — SECTIONAL SEMIFINALS
In the only sectional semifinal involving an area team on Thursday, in a Class
2A semifinal at Nashville, Red Bud shut out Flora 4-0.
