EDWARDSVILLE – The Edwardsville Municipal Band will mark the July 4 holiday with two free performances this week in Edwardsville as part of the city’s weeklong 250th celebration, including a Thursday concert and a Saturday performance ahead of the annual fireworks display.
The band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 2, in a concert to “CELEBRATE THE SEMIQUINCENTENIAL,” according to event information. The program is described as honoring “our shared heritage and the enduring spirit of freedom through melodies that evoke pride, unity, and hope.”
Guest soprano Caitlin Towell will join the performances. She is described as a high-honors graduate of the University of Illinois and Oklahoma City University and is returning to the local ensemble where Edwardsville’s school music and theater programs first sparked her interest in performing.
The celebration will continue at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 4, when the band performs at the Edwardsville American Legion Post. The patriotic concert will serve as the musical prelude to the city’s annual holiday fireworks display.
Both concerts are free and open to the public. Attendees are invited to bring lawn chairs or blankets.
Concessions during Thursday’s performance will benefit the Edwardsville Catholic School Band Boosters, supporting local youth music education.
