Shiloh Breaks Ground On New Police Headquarters

SHILOH – Officials broke ground Monday, June 29, 2026, on a new Shiloh Police Department headquarters in Shiloh, Illinois, a $10.5 million project that local and state leaders said is intended to expand space for officers and improve public safety services in the community.

The ceremonial groundbreaking was held at 10 a.m. Monday. The new building, at 105 High St. in Shiloh, is estimated to be ready in about a year and will replace the department’s current station, which officials said has been outgrown.

The planned headquarters will be about 17,000 square feet, compared with the current 1,900 square feet. The building will include a sally port, a check-in area and forensics space.

The Village of Shiloh said the project is “a long-awaited and much-needed investment in public safety,” adding that it will provide “modern facilities to support our police officers and better serve the residents of Shiloh for years to come.”

State Sen. Christopher Belt, D-Swansea, and State Rep. Jay Hoffman, D-Swansea, helped secure a $4 million grant through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. The funding was announced in March 2024 and released earlier this year.

Hoffman said the new station is “a significant investment in public safety, delivering our officers a modern facility that will better support their mission and better serve this community.”

“It reflects the needs of a growing area, and I want to thank Mayor Bob Weilmuenster, his team, Senator Christopher Belt and all the local leaders who stepped up to champion this project and helped to secure funding,” Hoffman said.

Belt said he was “honored to participate in the groundbreaking ceremony for the Village of Shiloh’s new police department.”

“Groundbreaking ceremonies represent the culmination of planning, collaboration, and perseverance,” Belt said. “Special acknowledgement goes to Mayor Weilmuenster, the village board, administrative team, and Chief Wittenauer for their vision. I appreciate the opportunity to have collaborated with Leader Jay Hoffman to secure funding for this project.”

Hoffman also thanked Chief Rich Wittenauer and members of the Shiloh Police Department.

“This project isn’t an endpoint,” Hoffman said. “It’s an opportunity to further strengthen and build a quality police department to serve this community and its residents. I’m excited to see this project move forward, and can’t wait to see it open and running.”

The Shiloh Police Department said it was proud to be part of this exciting milestone and that it looks forward to many years in the facility in the future.
