EDWARDSVILLE – Lucy Doyle’s sophomore girls track and field season was marked by a runner-up finish at the IHSA Class 1A Girls Track and Field Sectional in Carlinville on May 13, 2026, and a personal-best performance a week later at the state championships in Charleston.
Doyle of Metro East Lutheran placed second in the 3,200 meters at the sectional with a time of 13:05.38 to advance to the IHSA 1A State Track and Field Championships at Eastern Illinois University. At state, she ran a personal best of 12:27.84 and finished 36th.
Doyle is a BJ’s Printables Female Athlete of the Month.
Her season also included a second-place finish in the 1,600 meters at the Wood Relays on April 16, 2026, which stood as her season best in that event. At the Gateway Metro Track and Field Championships on May 6, 2026, Doyle placed fourth in the 1,600 in 6:03.84 and was third in the conference in the 3,200 with a time of 13:17.45.
Kevin Reiseck, her MELHS girls cross country coach, said Doyle remains focused on both long-term and daily objectives as she enters the fall cross country season.
“We stay aware of our goals farther away and pay more attention to the daily goals,” the coach said.
The coach said the team hopes Doyle can continue progressing.
“We are hoping she can hit those goals. She will be our top girl runner,” Reiseck said.
The coach also described Doyle as highly motivated in training.
“We have to slow her down. She is just really driven to be the best runner she can be. It makes it pretty easy to put together workouts for her. She can run with boys, which she did today for the workout,” Reiseck said.
