MITCHELL – Illinois State Police said one person was injured in a two-vehicle crash Friday evening on northbound Illinois 255 near Gateway Commerce in Mitchell, prompting a temporary lane closure during the investigation.
The crash happened at about 7:55 p.m. July 10, 2026, in Madison County, according to a preliminary investigation by ISP Troop 8. Police said the crash involved an SUV and a passenger car in the median.
One person was taken to a local hospital with injuries, state police said.
The northbound left lane of Illinois 255 was closed during the crash investigation and reopened at about 9:21 p.m., according to Trooper Ryan Wagand of the Illinois State Police Public Information Office and Safety Education Unit.
“There is no further information available at this time,” Wagand said.
