
David John Long, age 79, of Highland, passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at Cedar Ridge Health & Rehab in Lebanon.
He was born on January 13, 1947, in Highland, to the late Ralph M. and Adrienne C. (nee Koch) Long. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Linda M. (nee Haller) Long, who he married on July 26, 1969.
David is survived by his son, William (Cathie) Long and grandchildren, Katelyn Long and Brandon Long.
A proud veteran, David honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1969. He spent his career working hard on the road and in industry, driving for Antler Trucking, EF Express, and Rideshare Bus, and working as a former employee of American Steel.
David was deeply involved in his community and faith. He was a proud member of VFW Post 5694, Knights of Columbus Council 1580, the Helvetia Sharpshooters Society, and the Holy Name Society at St. Paul Church, as well as a former member of the Highland Sportsman Club.
An avid outdoorsman, David found true joy in fishing, hunting, and bowling with friends. He will be deeply missed and remembered for his unwavering loyalty to his family, faith, and country. He loved riding around on his scooter or wheelchair visiting local businesses, such as Tru-Buy and Moto Mart and enjoyed getting Sam’s Pizza.
A Graveside service, with military honors, will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, in St. Louis, MO, will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 10:30 a.m.
