Mother and Daughter Die In Shooting and Fire

ST. LOUIS — Homicide detectives are investigating a shooting and house fire in north St. Louis that resulted in the deaths of a mother and her daughter.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police and St. Louis Fire Departments responded to a house fire at about 12:10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, 2025, in the 5700 block of Floy Avenue in the Walnut Park West neighborhood. Upon arrival, officers found 45-year-old LaTasha Brown and her 9-year-old daughter, Paige, inside the home with gunshot wounds. Both were transported to a hospital. Paige died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2025, and Brown died Monday evening, Dec. 22, 2025, authorities said.

Investigators have determined that the home was intentionally set on fire. The circumstances surrounding the shooting and fire remain under investigation.

St. Louis Mayor Cara Spencer expressed condolences on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2025, stating: “My heart is with the families and loved ones of all lost to violence this year. Especially today, as we grieve the loss of a mother and her young child in their own home as they prepared for the holiday season.

“SLMPD homicide detectives are currently working around the clock to hold whoever did this fully accountable. If you know anything, even the smallest thing, about this incident or any other homicide in our city, please tell the police as soon as possible by calling 314-444-5371 or 866-371-TIPS. Please help provide some justice for this beautiful family, and all families in our community impacted by heinous violence.”

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department continues to seek information to aid in the investigation.
