This weekend’s Weather: Stormy Friday, calmer weekend

Friday starts mostly cloudy and mild, with temperatures near 60 and a little humidity hanging in the air. Through late morning, skies stay mostly cloudy as a south wind picks up around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. By afternoon, Friday climbs to a high of 83, and that warmup helps fire off scattered thunderstorms with a 55% chance of rain.

Friday evening looks like the roughest part of the forecast. Thunderstorms become likely and could turn heavy, with a 99% chance of rain overnight. Some storms may bring damaging winds, hail, flash flooding and even an isolated tornado. The breeze shifts west-southwest as the storms move through, and temperatures fall steadily overnight to a low of 48 by early Saturday.

Friday’s allergy index leans high for tree pollen, with low levels of grass, mold and ragweed. If you are headed out for ballgames, dinner plans or anything that depends on dry weather, keep a close eye on the sky after lunch.

Saturday brings a much different setup. A morning shower is possible, then skies gradually clear as cooler air settles in. It will be windy, with a high of 58 and a low of 39, so it will feel more like a jacket day than a patio day.

Sunday looks like the pick of the weekend. Expect sunshine for most of the day, a breezy afternoon and dry weather through daylight hours. Sunday’s high reaches 64, with a low of 42 Sunday night, before a couple of light showers may try to sneak in late.
