THURSDAY’S RESULTS

ROXANA 15, METRO-EAST LUTHERAN 11 (9 INNINGS): In a slugfest at MELHS, Roxana led 11-4 after five innings, but Metro-East scored seven times in the seventh to tie the game and force extra innings. After a scoreless eighth, he Shells outscored the Knights 4-0 in the ninth to take the win.

Lyndon Theis had three hits and two RBIs for Roxana, while Mason Crump struck out six on the mound. Ryan Phillippe had four hits for Metro-East, while Jackson Rider had the only strikeout on the mound.

The Shells are now 19-6, while the Knights are 8-13.

PIASA SOUTHWESTERN 11, CARROLTON 9: Southwestern scored three runs in the second, then exploded for eight in the sixth, and held off a seventh-inning Carrollton rally to win at home.

Carter Watson had two hits and two RBIs for the Piasa Birds, while both John Kunz and Colton Huber struck out one each on the mound. Charlie Stumpf led the Hawks with four hits and two RBIs, while Landon Grafford struck out three on the mound.

Southwestern is now 9-22, while Carrollton goes to 11-11.

STAUNTON 14, CARLINVILLE 6: After trading four runs each in the first, Staunton came up with three runs in the fifth and seven more in the sixth to dismiss Carlinville at home.

Zander Bellm led the Cavaliers with two hits and two RBIs, while Drew Quarton fanned seven on the mound.

The Bulldogs are now 17-12, while Carlinville is now 6-16.

FATHER MCGIVNEY CATHOLIC 16, CIVIC MEMORIAL 3: McGivney posted five runs in the third, 10 in the fourth, and one in the fifth to take the win over CM at the Bethalto Sports Complex.

Scott Phelps had three hits and four RBIs for the Griffins, while Jacoby Danco struck out six on the mound. Evan Spurgeon came up with two hits and two RBIs for the Eagles, with Brock Rust fanning seven on the mound.

McGivney is now 21-7, while CM goes to 15-15.

JERSEY 13, MARQUETTE CATHOLIC 2: Jersey scored three runs in the first, one in the second, and nine in the third to take a home win over Marquette.

Abe Kribs had two hits and four RBIs for the Panthers, while Shane Lamer went all the way on the mound, striking out two. Robert Roentz had a hit and an RBI for the Explorers, with Keller Jacobs fanning two while on the mound.

Jersey is now 19-10, while Marquette goes to 10-16.

ALTON 5, BELLEVILLE EAST 0: Alton scored three runs in the first, and once each in the fifth and sixth to shut out East at Redbirds Field.

Donovan Ducey had two hits and three RBIs for the Redbirds, while Logan Hickman struck out 12 on the mound.

Alton is now 15-14, with the Lancers falling to 10-18-1.

WATERLOO 4, GRANITE CITY 3 (8 INNINGS): Waterloo and Granite City were tied after regulation 3-3, but the Bulldogs scored the winning run in the top of the eighth to win at Babe Champion Field.

Timo Bradley had two hits and two RBIs for the Warriors, and also struck out two while on the mound.

Waterloo is now 18-6, while Granite goes to 13-12.

HARDIN CALHOUN 13, GREENFIELD NORTHWESTERN 3: Calhoun scored one in the first, and four runs in the second, third, and fourth to win at Greenfield.

Easton Wallendorf had three hits and three RBIs for the Warriors, while both Abner Hillner and Charlie Matthews struck out three each on the mound.

Calhoun is now 18-10, with the Tigers going to 9-19.

In other games played on Thursday, Breese Central won over Waltonville 9-4, O’Fallon tripped Belleville West 2-0, Maryville Christian bounced Lebanon 12-2, Mascoutah won over Breese Mater Dei Catholic 15-3, Hillsboro won over Cahokia 21-5, and Edwardsville won the Southwestern Conference title by shutting out Collinsville 5-0.

FRIDAY’S RESULTS

FATHER MCGIVNEY CATHOLIC 22, METRO-EAST LUTHERAN 7: McGivney scored 10 runs in the first, eight more in the second, and four in the third to win over Metro-East at Griffins Field.

Scott Phelps had two hits and two RBIs for the Griffins, while Patrick Gierer hit a grand slam homer for his only hit and RBIs. Jack Rolves struck out three on the mound. The Knights got two hits and two RBIs from Sammy Huber, while both Lane Wenge and Jackson Huber each struck out two.

McGivney is now 22-7, while Metro-East is now 8-14.

COLLINSVILLE 9, ROXANA 4: Collinsville ended a six-game losing skid by scoring once in the first and third, twice in the fifth, and five times in the sixth to defeat Roxana at Fletcher Field in Woodland Park.

Cal Swartz had two hits and two RBIs for the Kahoks, while Mason Ponder, Henry Stirnaman, and Carter Henson all saw time on the mound, but had no strikeouts. Max Autery had three hits and an RBI for the Shells, while Lyndon Theis had the only strikeout.

Collinsville is now 11-16, while Roxana goes to 19-7.

CIVIC MEMORIAL 3, BELLEVILLE ALTHOFF CATHOLIC 2: After a scoreless first three innings, Althoff scored single runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth to go ahead, but CM scored three times in the top of the seventh to win on the road.

Evan Spurgeion had two hits and an RBI for the Eagles, while Hudson Wesley fanned four while on the mound.

CM is now 16-15, while the Crusaders are now 5-22.

TRIAD 15, BELLEVILLE EAST 3: Triad went big in the third, scoring 13 runs, then put up two more in the fourth to win at home over East.

Both Keegan and Kannon Seipp had two hits and two RBIs each for the Knights, while Grayson Yank struck out four on the mound.

Triad improves to 25-5, while the Lancers are now 10-19-1.

In other results from Friday, Edwardsville rallied to defeat Jersey 6-5 in eight innings, Mascoutah defeated Columbia 9-1, Cahokia won over Carbondale 8-5, O’Fallon got past Freeburg 7-4, Breese Central took a 4-1 win over Louisville North Clay, and Altamont stopped Hardin Calhoun 4-1. On Wednesday, Greenville defeated Okawville 12-2, while on Thursday, Chester won over Okawville 17-0.

VOLLEYBALL

In a trio of matches played on Thursday, Belleville Althoff Catholic stopped Granite City 25-15, 25-9, and Belleville East rallied to win over Edwardsville 19-25, 25-16,25-16. and Father McGivney Catholic swept Freeburg 25-23, 26-24.
